You saved up and bought the perfect E46 M3. It's fast, handles as Jeremy Clarkson promised it would, and you're in love with it. Unfortunately, Ford has decided to offer up its 3.5 Liter EcoBoost engine in not only its Police Intercepter and Stealth Intercepter units, but also Ford's hottest selling police vehicle - the Ford Police Intercepter Utility Vehicle. Now the local PD has even more vehicles choices with at least a modicum of power and handling ability.

As good citizens we're glad those pledged to protect and serve can protect us a little better with a high-power vehicle, we just aren't too thrilled they will be able to serve us up with speeding tickets a little bit easier as well.

In its civilian counterpart !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! claims its zero-to-60 times fall from about eight seconds for the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! to around six seconds for the Sport with EcoBoost. The engine, which delivers 350 lb.-ft. of torque, has been available in a variety of Ford vehicles, including the Police Interceptor sedan. Like its civilian counterpart, the Intercepter with EcoBoost is only available with All Wheel Drive to handle the power.

Memorize this silhouette before you stretch the legs on that M3.

But how many police departments are going to spring for the Ecoboost version?

That's the question isn't it? The thing is, if they have the EcoBoost sedan, it will make more sense to have a common fleet. You'll see these in areas like Nevada and Los Angeles without a doubt, I can say that because they've said they are making plans to buy them.

They use taxpayer's money, so my guess would be almost all of them.

How well do these ecoboost motors take to a tune? I've seen an Explorer Sport around here that was amazingly quick when he hit it for the on ramp, and thought to myself that there was no way it was stock.

My sister has a Lincoln MKT with Eco-Boost. You'd be amazed at how fast that huge car can go. She also has an M3. She likes a fast car and never complains about her MKT's speed. You might be surprised at how fast it is bone-stock.

Kind of makes you wish Tauruses and Explorers wouldn't sell in sizeable numbers.

VERY VERY well, roughly +80hp and +90tq. I have a '10 SHO. Not to mention 0-60 goes from 5.2 to less than 4.

I have the '10 SHO and it is a whole 'nother omgwtf moment after you tune it. See my other response in this thread.

Town I used to live in had these, along with the SHO, there was a Municipal Dealer in the town so I got to see the Caprice, the Explorer, the SHO, and a few others...

Hummers....Whatever else police use in the area.

Good point. Particularly because the "stealth" versions will be tough to pick out. With the lights off, one would be impossible to know if it's a police vehicle or a tuner vehicle. Look at the rims for Pete's sake. Why there outta be a law!

My understanding is that the 3.5 eco is a badass engine.

I especially liked what Ford did when they did the teardown at the auto show. Just abused that engine day in and day out, and it was basically brand new when they took it apart.

I really want a Ford Tremor with a tune on it. Awesome!

Yeah, look up the Livernois video of a Regular EB F-150 vs. a tuned EB F-150.

Radio waves travel at just below the speed of light when permeating the atmosphere. In the meantime this bad boy will be at least in your rear view mirrors while his buddies plan your demise with glee.

Good question. I don't think you can until they get sold off. However, you could buy an Explorer Sport. Basically, it's the same thing, but it probably isn't as tough in terms of the suspension and other components that help power equipment, etc...
